There are many types of procedures that fall under the realm of cosmetic dentistry. From porcelain veneers to composite restorations to full coverage crowns, anything that is performed in order to enhance the appearance of your smile is labeled cosmetic dentistry. Here at Sweet Tooth, we believe that the heart of a successful partnership with the patient is communication. Only following a thorough exam including photographs, custom models of your teeth and mock workups, can we achieve a result that will have you smiling for years to come. Some types of cosmetic work include porcelain or composite veneers, which are ultra thin shells of porcelain or composite which cover only the the front of your teeth, so your teeth look great, but still feels a bit more natural on the tongue side since your original tooth remains. However, these are not for everyone because of factors such as original tooth color, tooth grinding habits, and issues with occlusion. A full coverage crown is usually the best option for most patients who want all the benefits of a veneer, but do not want any chance of the restoration chipping or breaking off. A full coverage crown is the same as a veneer aesthetically and compositionally, but covers the entire tooth. The fantastic thing about any cosmetic procedure is that all three of these types of restorations are stain resistant. With that said, we have most all of our patients perform a bleaching of their teeth first to a shade of white that they are most happy with. This is because we can always match a restoration to the color of existing teeth, but can not accurately predict what shade a patient’s teeth will whiten to. We offer bleaching trays using Opalescence whitening gel that can achieve the desired results in as short as thirty minutes! Once the whitening is performed to the patient’s satisfaction, we create the veneers or crowns and help achieve the smile of your dreams!
